Re: worster boiler

@ tidy I'm assuming your boiler is a combi and that you are running a shower fed directly from the mains and boiler. Sounds like a water pressure problem to me or possibly blocked inlet filters at the showers or boiler. If you turn a hot tap on at a sink/basin and then turn the cold tap on at the sa...

Re: Hot water pressure

@ trevors50uk If the water pressure and flow is ok to start with from the mixer, but a flow problem develops only as the water temperature increases, then change the mixer. There isn't any kind of blockage in the pipework, otherwise it would present itself as soon as you open the tap and there's not...

Re: Hot water pressure

@ trevors50uk

Sounds like a tap problem.

Do you get the same behaviour at other hot outlets? If not, then it's sure to be the mixer. The tap probably slows to a trickle as the washer in the tap expands due to the heat and blocks the port- can you open the tap any more to increase flow?

@ wasp

There are two primary reasons for the F1 fault code to be displayed, flame sensing and overheating, but there are several causes for each.

What parts have been changed so far?

Re: restricting gas flow to reduce gas fire output

@ George 1949 Fitting a restrictor would contravene current regulations, as when an appliance is installed, the pipework supplying the appliance with gas must be appropriately sized so as to allow it's maximum heat input requirement. The restrictor would increase pressure losses as well as impede th...

Re: Vaillant Combi Central Heating Problem

@ denson

It seems a strange question for you to ask. Why was an injector missing from your boiler for two weeks?

What boiler model do you have? Are you referring to a pilot or burner injector?

How did your boiler perform in the two weeks prior to the fan breaking down? Was the hot water ok?

Re: Gas cooker inlet protective cap!!?

@ stanleysmith

You don't need "know it alls" to explain the law to you, but you do need them to explain how to remove a plastic plug from a cooker inlet so you can continue with your ILLEGAL gas work. I would consult an up to date registered gas safe engineer!

Re: Gas cooker inlet protective cap!!?

@ stanleysmith

Sounds like you are doing a touch of DIY gas work, because it's straight forward, right?

DIY gas work is illegal. It is also very dangerous.

Call a registered gas engineer to install the cooker.

Re: Screwless Alternative to Shower Pole

@ Shannon There is such a thing as a telescopic shower curtain pole, which doesn't use screws etc to fix in position, but rather the strenth of the telescope effect to pinch it between two fixed walls. You can purchase these from Argos I think. If you're still worried about marking the walls, try pu...

Re: Toilet refilling when neighbour flushes!!

@ trainee laydeee plumb Look in your toilet cistern and see whether there is an air break between the inlet valve and the water level (There should be one)- and whether the water level has been set correctly. Also, there must be a case of low water pressure in the pipework feeding both your toilet a...

@ WALT1950 First of all, I know you're worried about theft of the copper pipe, but it's not as easy to swipe as lead flashing- it's a little more hazardous. Don't get me wrong, I have known it happen, my father-in-law and I ran several metres of 22mm copper down the side of a house, mostly for our c...

Re: Vaillant Combi Central Heating Problem

@ hfalkner Your probably right in saying that putting the heating on has had an affect on your hot water performance. It could be for a number of reasons though. It's necessary to know what boiler model you have, whether it's a condensing boiler, and what the reading on the system pressure gauge is....

@ Spanner The pump terminating in the gutter isn't a good idea. BG are right in saying it will almost definately freeze, block with snow or general debris that always clogs gutters (moss etc). The PRV should normally/always terminate outside- look at your boiler manufacturer instructions. Read what ...

Re: Toilet sistern internal overflow

@ 28mad10 Unless you can provide some pictures of your particular flush valve/syphon and float valve, then it's difficult to advise you on how best to solve the problem. The most likely reason the toilet is overflowing is either the float valve is passing water or the flush valve isn't seating prope...

Re: Old radiator valves leaking when combi installed?

@ Alvin Wyllie I've done a lot of system conversions over the years and I can't say I've found a particular problem with Danfos thermostats. I had one house full of rads pop under the higher pressure once (They weren't old looking rads either), rad valve unions and gland nuts have also leaked, but n...
