Re: shower pressure

Is it an electric or gravity fed hot and cold water shower? I presume hot and cold water as you have mentioned the position of the hot water cylinder. If its a hot and cold water fed, take off the valve from the wall and check to see if there are inlet striner/filters that may be blocked. if its and...

Re: Shower with mains cold supply

The problem you will have will be the difference between the static head available for hot water (what is the vertical distance from the highest point of the shower to the underside of the cold water storage tank?) If its less that 0.5m you will be struggling to get any good flow out of the shower w...

Re: room thermostat

HI Pommy Control options Do you have thermostatic rad valves on all of your radiators? If so that (in theory) regulates the temperature within each room, so technically there is no need for a room thermostat to control the boiler or pump. BTW, normally a room stat sends a signal for the pump to run ...

Re: Shower with mains cold supply

Hi Bordecol Man you have askd the one question that needs so much more info first. OK, do you want 1/ mains fed electric instantaneous shower? 2/ gravity fed, pump boosted shower? Item one needs RCD protected electric mains item two needs new feed from hot water tank via surrey or ******* flange con...

Re: Cistern Siphon Adaptor

Hi Dan Its unusual for a cistern of this type to be 2", maybe someone used a close coupled cistern and used it as a low level? Fitting an adapter (1 1/2 to 2") will prob risk leaks and a 2" sipon will not connect to the flush pipe Better still get a new low level cistern with an 11/2&...

Re: Cistern Siphon Adaptor

Hold one there danny If its a low level cistern (flush pipe connects from cistern to pan) then you have a whole dfferent ball game The cistern you have has a pull or lever handle doesn't it? It will not have a push button type of flush, in that case the sealing mechanism from the cistern to the flus...

Re: Loft Conversion

HI Rob With your current system your biggest problem will be to maintain the static head in the system. I take it you will be putting some form of hot and cold water and then also some heating via radiators in there The header tank for the heating system will need to be at least 0,5m above the highe...

Re: boiler to hot water cylinder pipe size

Hi Imey I agree with Plumbob in that it may be an airlock in the cylinder coil and yes the size may be a bit small but if you have a fully pumped system (two pipes from the boiler) then the pump will overcome this resistance. However if you have a four pipe system, two of the pipes will be to feed t...

Re: Cistern Siphon Adaptor

Hi Danny No the B&Q product is not an adaptor but merely a "washer" for 2" cisterns Your choices are, 1/ Get a 2" outlet siphon 2/ Use the adaptor Using silicone to "fill the gap" = bodge (IMHO) BTW as with all close coupled cisterns, go easy on the clamping wing nu...

Re: Old water tank

I wouldn't recommend using an angle grinder in a loft space particularly on a public forum. The dust and debris in a loft means there is a considerable risk of fire. Any sparks may lie smoldering unseen in loft insulation hours after activity has ceased. Unless the tank can be removed in one piece,...

Re: Dangerous Plumbing PLEASE HELP ASAP

Hi Dave The system you have may be a fortic type utilising a "combination" cylinder, have a look here m Some of them are made so that the header tank is not easily identifiable as in here m As for running your heating system from your solid fuel burner then you will need to put in a comple...

Re: Replace thermostatic shower valve or more

HI Heppers Just a quick thought, if you ok at weilding a spanner and screwdriver, you could remove the mixer from the wall and pipes, flip it over just to check to see if the H&C pipes are reversed. First isolate the feed pipes to the shower (local isolation valves or failing that mains stop coc...

Re: Old water tank

Hi JLC SCrap value for cast iron/galvanized steel is about £160/200 per tonne which is 20p per kilo So even if tank is 50kg you will only get £10 weighing it in, better than nothing if you can get it down from loft in one go To cut it up??? Use a hack saw and you will be there for a month of sundays...
