Re: Electric Hob Install and Advice Needed on Wiring Used by Electrician

Yes the wiring from the hob is straight to the isolation switch using 6mm T+E.

Oven is directly below the hob.

Can the following heat resistant flex be used, manufacturer states H05VV-F, is this the same thing?

Re: Electric Hob Install and Advice Needed on Wiring Used by Electrician

Thanks for the response. The electrician has used a 6mm T+E rather than the 2.5mm flex from the cooker isolation switch to the hob. Are we saying I need to ring him and get him to change the 6mm to 2.5mm flex if I want everything to comply with regulations?
Thanks

Electric Hob Install and Advice Needed on Wiring Used by Electrician

I have a electric hob (input 5500W) which my electrician has connected to the cooker switch using a 6mm T+E cable. My question is the installation guide states is should be "connected using 3 x 6mm / 3 x 2.5mm" and that "for this connection a power lead of wire type H05VV-F should be ...

Outdoor smart socket for low voltage garden lights

I am looking to buy some low voltage garden lights which come with a plug. I already have a standard waterproof outdoor socket to plug these into. What I want, though, is to be able to control turning these on through my iphone, similar to smart sockets you can get which can be controlled through wi...

Samsung RSH1NHMH Fridge Freezer not Turning on and Tripping Electrics

Hi, A couple of days ago we left the door open on our samsung rsh1nhmh freezer compartment for around 12 or so hours. When we realised all the freezer food had become soggy. The freezer(and fridge) were fine after this but we decided it would be a time to turn it off in case it needed defrosting. Af...

Cannot get Water to Totally Drain When Removing Concrete Pond?

Hi, I am having problems in trying to remove a concrete pond that was built by the previous owners. I have drained the pond using a water pump and drilled a number of holes at the bottom of the pond using a jack hammer. I thought this would have meant any remaining water would quickly drain away, in...

Re: Replacing old Downlights With 240v Downlights - are They Direct Swap?

Just noticed if I pull a bit more than I find the usual grey wires.

I will therefore get the mains voltage fixings that are suitable for bathrooms i.e. IP65/66.

One more question...do I need the fire rated ones or does that not matter since I am buying ones suitable for bathrooms?

Replacing old Downlights With 240v Downlights - are They Direct Swap?

We have completely gutted our ensuite, At the moment there are 4 mr16 12v 50w downlights dangling down. These need replacing as, at some point whilst removing ceiling for renovations, some of the lighting fixtures were taken off and have been lost in the rubble. I would like to replace these lights ...

Thanks for the reply. Will that get rid of the white deposits that keep coming back?

Damp Patch In Garage With White Fluffy Deposits That Has Never Dried Out

One of the walls in our garage has been boarded with insulation backed plasterboard and skimmed. A dryer was then in use on this wall and as a result there is a damp patch behind the dryer. We have removed the dryer from this wall and made sure its vented outside. The problem is the damp patch has n...

Recessed Downlights - How Many Spotlights Needed For Living Room

I am really struggling to figure out how many spotlights I will need for my living room.

I will be installing 240v mains downlight (50w)

Room size is 3.37m x 4.50m.
Height is low at 2.40m.

Does anyone know how many will be best and in what configuration?

Re: Cold outside wall

The insulated plasterboards are now up and skimmed. One final question, would it be an issue if I used vinyl wallpaper to decorate or do I need to stick to breathable paper/ paint? I ask this as there is a vapor barrier that has been created using the insulated plasterboards.

Re: Cold outside wall

Insulated boards are proving to be very expensive!!!! I am thinking about using celotex ga4000 insulation boards instead. Basically... 50mm insulation boards(included is a vapour control barrier) on the wall held together by treated battens and then plasterboard on top, as per instructions. Does any...

Re: Cold outside wall

I was under the impression that I could use the insulated pasterboards directly on the plaster as I do not get penetrating damp, simply condensation?

Re: Cold outside wall

Thanks for the advise. I am thinking about using the kingspan insulated plasterboards(as they more reasonably priced) along with dri wall adhesive and a few frame screws to make sure it doesnt fall off....is this ok to do? Also would I require any other sort of plastic membrane in between the kingsp...
