Re: Replacing security light with bypass switch

Thanks for the quick response. I have seen that "facility" mentioned in the spec for various lights but I was hoping to use the bypass switches that are already there. The wiring to the light I replaced has four cores but I think most lights, without provision for a bypass switch, only use...

Replacing security light with bypass switch

We have two security lights on the outside of our extension and they are connected through switches in my workshop so the PIR sensors can be bypassed if I want the lights to stay on. Unfortunately I have to replace one of them and I'm trying to find out if I need a particular type of fitting that ca...

Looking for Cooker With Door Hinged at the Bottom

Hi, I'm trying to find a new free standing electric cooker. There is an enormous choice but I cannot find one with the main oven door hinge at the bottom (horizontal flap arrangement) or on the right hand side. Does anyone know if such a cooker exists? I have changed the door hinges on a fridge and ...

Central Heating Control Query After System Changes

Hi all. Our central heating has never been the same since the boiler was moved and other changes were made when we had an extension built. However that's a long story and so I'm looking for suggestions to resolve the most frequent problem. At 0500 the system starts on HW only and shuts down when the...

Zanussi Oven Wiring Query to Connect Built in Oven

Hi all. I've been asked to fit a new built in oven in a friend's kitchen to replace her old broken one. The new one is a .Zanussi ZOB353031. During many years of married life I have fitted or moved several free standing cookers so was expecting something similar. Wrong!! The oven was supplied with a...

Re: Worcester Green Star Boiler fan switching on and off before staying on

Boiler not working at all yesterday morning so I contacted BG. Their guy located a fault in the three position valve actuator. Seems to be working now!

Re: 22mm Low Pressure Non Return Compression Valve Required

your post isn't very clear "gravity/tank feed rather than mains" ???? Thanks for the reply. Sorry I wasn't very clear with my explanation. The valve will be going into the hot water supply to a shower and the hot water is a gravity feed from a tank. I'm told a lot of NRV's require mains p...

22mm Low Pressure Non Return Compression Valve Required

I am trying to locate a 22mm compression fit non-return valve that will open with gravity/tank feed rather than mains. No-one in my local builder's merchants knew there was such a thing and if I look online, the working pressure never seems to be specified. Any suggestions welcome! Many thanks, Garf...

Worcester Green Star Boiler fan switching on and off before staying on

Our Worcester Green star boiler seems to be working okay but recently I have noticed that the fan kicks in , stops and then repeats this several times before staying on as required. Yesterday I was standing outside our house under the vent when I heard it stop/start several times but when I went bac...

Building inspectors requirements for recently completed extension

We recently had an extension built and when the inspector came round to sign off completion he raised half a dozen points. All but two have now been sorted and I'm wondering if anyone would be able to offer advice on these last two? First we have a new external door which leads into my workshop on t...

Re: Intermittent Old Push Button Type MCB Tripping

Well I finally replaced the MCB last weekend after a month or so where we had no trips for about four weeks and then last weekend we had two on Saturday and two on Sunday. Since changing the unit we have had no trips plus we may have found the offending electrical equipment - an extension socket in ...

Re: Intermittent Old Push Button Type MCB Tripping

Thank you for the reply. I will get the replacement ASAP and let you know if it sorts it.
No trips since Sunday even though we have been using all the usual money-burners such as washing machine and tumble drier.
Will report back soon.

Intermittent Old Push Button Type MCB Tripping

About a month or so ago our ring main MCB tripped for no apparent reason. I reset it and since then it trips on a random basis, mostly in the early hours of the morning but not at times when you might expect it to if there was a loading problem e.g. when the tumble drier, toaster kettle are all doin...

Re: Poor hot water from taps after changing boiler

Hi proptech. Apologies but I've only just seen your reply.

I have just taken some pictures of inside the airing cupboard showing the cylinder but am having trouble transferring them to my PC.

I will therefore do so ASAP!
