Sounds disgusting!! Like oddbod said use marine ply. Slightly more expensive but should give you 10yrs. I use marine ply for the floor of narrow boats. I cut all the sheets before hand and bitumen paint the underside of the ply and all the edges. This keeps the moisture out and gives it a good long ...

Youve made this sound very confusing! Do you mean your makeing the door lining for the airing cupboard? if so fix the frame to the studwork with the bow going away from you. This means you can pack the frame away from the studwork using 3mm ply and this will keep the frame straight and inline. Keep ...

If you cant see the skirting on the rack at a builders centre, it means your going to have to have it specially made at a joiners workshop. If it is a 1930s style house it could be called lambs tongue. Ask to see a piece to confirm. Take an offcut with you and ask for a price, The number for a joine...

Wooden upstands are usually made from MDF with a laminet surface. The upstand sits on the worktop. There gripfilled to the wall and a clear silicone sealent used to seal the upstand to the worktop. Ive fitted several of these recently. It seems to be a fashion thing! Tiles are going out and laminets ...

Hi, Cut a 45 degree mitre just above the rot and another mitre on the new timber which youve just had machined to size. It doesnt matter which way the mitre goes so long as the new and old jambs marry up together. Now treat all cut edges and plenty on the bottom and back of the new timber. Use a str...

Tricky one this. To steam bend you have to bend the timber seconds after youve taken out of the kiln and start the process imediatly before the timber goes cold. The easier way would be to cut saw kerfs in the back of the skirting making it thinner and easier to bend. The kerfs should be about 10mm ...

Hi Theres nothing you can do with misted up glass. The steel bar between the 2 panes of glass which protects the air gap has failed or broken down. The best thing to do is replace the unit. At least this will last 10 yrs. The stuff you talk about being pumped into the double glazed unit is argon gas...

Louise, Please dont tell me your thinking of useing a brush! That would be a disaster!! It is possible to paint the door. First take the door off and lie it flat. Using a 150 grit emery paper give it a good rub and dust off. Spray it with a plastic prima. (see Halfords or Motor world) 2 coats of dar...

Theres generally 2 types... First the barrel type. This is a key shaped barrel which protrudes from the bottom of the handle. Open the door, look at the edge of the door and a machine screw with a pozi drive head will run through the center of the barrel. undo this and slip the barrel out. Its usual...

Unfortunatly there isnt a way you can. I normally alter the door frames to suit the doors by either rebate planeing the door linings(internal door frame) or moving the door stop on the frame so it falls inline with the door. Please dont tell me youve had them dipped!! A change from constant tempretu...

Youve proberly finished the kitchen by now. But for future references.... I find it quicker and safer to throw the free jig your given and use a tape measure and pencil. Mark the center of the draw (width and height)and divide the span of the handle holes into 2. Mark these measurements either side ...

I dont use biscuits on my worktops because you cant lift or drop the worktop when its glued together. Sometimes a final play with the scribe is needed to get them perfectly flush. The bolts are quite enough to hold them together while the silicone(clear, low modulos) cures. Dont screw the worktop do...

Being a carpenter Im often asked by plumbers to fix the shower doors in work. Offer the frame of the door to the tiles and mark the screw locations with ...
