It should be white side the skim side but loads of people use the other side thinking one side is for artex (white) and the other side is for plaster skim (Brown) so just leave it but you know now for next time.

I always use a sand and cement screed instead of battons. Get the scratch coat spot on then there should be no need for battons on 2nd coat. Use a diamond float for a good finish its the best thing ive ever used.

No need for timber ive used 18mm thick fascia as advised from a builder. Just make sure you use 65mm nails with that size of fascia.[size=18][/size][color=black][/color]
