Pre-drilled Angle Iron Posts for Closeboard Fence?

Has anyone used pre-drilled angle iron posts for a 6 feet closeboard fence? It seems an easy option but are there drawbacks? If you've done it, any tips?

Earthing Armour - Can I Earth to Iron Mounting Bracket?

I have a hook-up on my drive for my motorhome and have used armoured cable buried eighteen inches down for the supply. It terminates in a commando socket mounted on a piece of angle iron concreted into the ground. Does earthing work to iron and can I earth the armour to it? At the other end I have a...

Fixing Top Rail for Folding Doors - What Fixings to Use?

I have to fix a metal top rail to an opening that was for a patio door before an extension was added to my bungalow. The bungalow was built in 1969 and I know the outer skin has a steel RSJ and I assume the inner skin is a concrete lintel. The manufacturer recommends three inch screws "in appro...

Earthing Armoured Cable for Motorhome Hook-up

I am installing a hook-up for my motorhome on my drive, using a commando socket and armoured cable. At the supply end in the garage I have a 30A RDC and am connecting to the circuit via a double pole switch into a junction box. I understand that apart from the earth lead to socket and switch I have ...

Mould in shower room

12 years ago I installed an en-suite shower room in my son's house. A ceiling fan connected to the light takes air through a flexible duct approx 2.5 metres to an outside wall vent. There has been no problem up to now. As my son now works abroad the house is let and the tenant, who moved in last Jan...

leak between shower tray and bottom tile

The tiles in my en-suite start about 10mm above the shower tray and despite cutting out old sealant and re-sealing, leaks still occur. If I cut out again and fix a row of border tiles against the bottom tile and on the shower tray (with tile spacers) will this stop the problem? Is there any benefit ...

Re: training as a decorator

Thanks for reply. Perhaps I didn't clarify the position. He doesn't intend to "pass himself off" but to offer more of a handyman service to landlords who just want a cheap and cheerful clean-up job. He's in an area (Walthamstow) where there are lots of low standard properties to rent and f...

training as a decorator

My son-in-law is shortly being made redundant and needs a job which allows him to collect his son from school or after-school club. I have suggested he re-trains as a painter/decorator and later takes courses in basic plastering, bricklaying etc. which would enable him to earn a reasonable living as...

Wood Wash on new timber

Does anyone know a product similar to Ronseal Quick & Easy Wood Wash which is no longer shown on their website? It is a watery looking paint which doesn't crack on timber cladding as it expands and contracts. I need a limed oak or ash finish if possible. Hope you can help.
