Painting over water leak stains ?

The builder has finally repaired the kitchen roof and I can now repaint the ceiling. The water leaks have really left their mark in the plasterboard and I was wondering what preparation I need to do before applying paint. The ceiling plasterboard is sound but deeply stained in places and I believe I...

Replacement battery charger for Ryobi drill. Confused !!!

I seem to be going round in circles. The old Ryobi charger, the Ryobi BC-1815-S charger that is for 18.0v Ryobi BPP-1820 batteries has finally given up on me after many years of domestic use. It was being used and charging fine and then just stopped, no lights, nothing. I changed the fuse in the plu...

Re: Carport planning query.

Thanks.
That is how it works here so I will get some opinions from the Parish Council as to what they know from past experience and then deal with the pre-planning.
Cheers
Brian.

Carport planning query.

We moved into our bungalow about 4 years ago (rural East Northants) and always had the intention to build a carport. Last year we created the parking space in front of the gable end and had the garden wall rebuilt, solid and firm. I had initially thought about a cantilever carport (neater/tidier) bu...

Pond has a leak ! What to do ?

The garden pond must be 10 years old at least, we moved here three years ago. It is heart shaped, about 3-4m diameter. The liner is held under granite pavers all around the edge. It is now dropping the level by 2/3 inches per day and I keep having to top it up as it has goldfish and plants etc in it...

How Much Should I Budget for a Concrete Pad to Park the Car on?

I would like to have a rough idea of how much it might cost to have a concrete pad laid to park the car on. Ground is at the side of the house, basically garden soil, clay subsoil. Size is approximately 16 ft x 10 ft for the concrete. So roughly, how much should I budget to have the soil removed, ha...

Where to Find a Replacement LPG gas Hob Injector ?

In order to save the wife's sanity and my rising frustration levels help is required please. Last month we purchased a new gas hob for the new kitchen (extension and rebuild). We are out in the sticks and wife wanted "gas on glass" again. It had to be LPG compliant and choice is very limit...

Replace rad With Towel Rail on Daikin Altherma Air/Water LT System

We moved into our bungalow just over a year ago and I want to now remove a small rad in the utility room and replace it with a towel rail (far more useful). The c/h system is an 8 year old Daikin Altherma LT air/water heat pump set up and I was just wondering if there was any special procedure I nee...

Which is lighter an electric or petrol chainsaw ?

My old electric chainsaw has finally given up, beyond repair.
It was very heavy to use so no great loss.
Which would be lighter, an electric or petrol replacement ? Just need a smallish one …14/16 ins will do. Not used a lot but it makes life much easier.
Cheers
Brian.

Triton Rapide Shower and Low Pressure Light Shows?

A 'just moved house and it doesn't work properly' question. Shower unit is a Triton Rapide 4 plus. It worked fine for a few days but now runs cold with low pressure light lit. I have run it with max temp and flow slows (shower head removed) as it should and then increases as the temp control is turn...

Architect or Builder Recommendations in East Northants Please

We move on Monday to our bungalow near Oundle in Northants. We need the services of an architect/designer whatever to plan a garage extension on the gable end and a dining room/kitchen/bathroom extension at the rear and then a builder. It is not our local area so if anyone on the forum has any recom...

Replacement for Ryobi Drill as Gearbox has Gone

I have a cordless Ryobi CDI 1803 impact drill and the gearbox has died, just like sitting in the car and engine works perfectly, engage clutch and gears but go nowhere. Drill does the same, motor spins as it should but chuck doesn't. The drill is in a case with charger and two perfectly good 18v Ni-...

Right, thanks for that. W/B chappie wandered around and took the info from the old boiler, no measurements of rooms/rads etc. Should add that we want a good quality boiler, not just the cheapest if that narrows the field down a bit ? Something with a good guarantee, good back-up service and RELIABLE...

Oh , right then, I was trying to keep things as simple as possible. Cottage is 200 + yrs old, 20+inch stone walls, no cavity, solid floors, Victorian single story rear extension-solid brick walls. Present boiler is a Vulcan Continental , floor standing, at least 35 yrs old that feeds 10 rads of vary...

W/B Greenstar 24 Ri or FS 30CDi ?

Our local W/B chappie has recommended a Greenster 24 Ri boiler as a replacement, saying there was no floor standing alternative. W/B have a Greenstar FS 30 CDi which is floor standing. Would this be an alternative or is it too over-powered compared to the 24 ? My basic understanding is that a conden...
