Is Wire Mesh Necessary to Support Rock Wool Between Joists in Loft Conversion?

My plans show 60mm rock wool requirement in the ceiling beneath a loft extension floor to achieve 1/2 hr fire protection. Can anyone tell me please whether a wire mesh is necessary to support the rock wool or whether it is sufficient to wedge the flexi rock wool slabs between the joists? Rock wool t...

Soil pipe ventilation

We have extended the width of our house so that the external gable wall waste pipe is now internal. For reasons connected with the potential entry point in to the new loft floor of a soil pipe extension it would be easier for us to divert the waste pipe under the new loft floor and ventilate to the ...

dry lining and painting

I'm thinking of drylining a back room, sanding and painting. Can anyone confirm please that I can still get this skimmed even after painting with emulsion if it doesn't look good enough?

Thanks for any help

Sorry don't have an answer but I suggest you log this query under carpentry/joinery as a joiner will best give you the answer you need rather than a plasterer. This is the sort of problem many joiners will have come across only in wood so the same principles will apply.

Good luck.

Can I use a cavity lintel

I have bought a heavy duty cavity lintel to comply with the approved plans for insertion of a beam to cover a wide opening we will be cutting into a load bearing wall. It will carry some of the loft joists. A builder who I had in to give me a price for cutting out and installing the beam says that i...

Ventilation gap required between insulation and roof felt?

Can I fill the gap between sloping roof rafters completely with insulation and not worry about leaving a ventilation gap if I use A1 protect breathable membrane between the rafters and the slates?

Thanks for any help on this.
