best way to prepare old pine doors

Hi, I have some old (apx 6 years) pine doors. They are generally in good condition, but have never been varnished / protected in any way. The time has come to do something with them. I have purchased some coloured wax to put on them, but am thinking they will probably need to be prepared in some way...
