Re: Is it Possible to Descale a Salamander Shower Pump?

I just wanted to update this thread. I did pour descaler into the shower pump and left it for a time. I can't say I noticed any deposit as I emptied ithe fluid out. Anyway I reconnected the pump and it worked fine. Whether it was the descaler or just moving the pump as I uninstalled/installed it I d...

Fixing a Wooden Post to a Brick Wall - Can I use Brackets?

This may be a stupid question but I need to know why. I need to connect a wooden post to the brickwork of my house and I wondered if I could fix a bracket(s) to the wall and then fix the post to the bracket. The existing post has come away from the wall and it looks as if it was fixed with very long...

Re: Is it Possible to Descale a Salamander Shower Pump?

Thank you proptech. What make is your shower pump? All I can say is that limescale was the reason given for replacing the pump. The shower had not been switched on for a time and when it was you just heard the motor whirring away but not kicking in. Consequently the shower head just dribbled. If lef...

Is it Possible to Descale a Salamander Shower Pump?

Does anayone know why is a shower pump (in this case salamander) is replaced due to limescale build up rather than descaled? At £200 it seems an expensive thing to throw out. Is it just not possible?

Re: New Exterior Light But Spare Cables Remain After Fitting

Thank you. I hadn't realised the plastic blocks were sold depending on the amps. I'm going to stick with the current block but look for shorter screws to fix the light onto the backplate (which in turn is secured to the wall). This, I hope, will make the light more stable.

Re: New Exterior Light But Spare Cables Remain After Fitting

Thank you epicmark. So should I worry that my outside light is wired like an inside one? Those extra (red) wires need to be connected to the block? I cannot see a small hole on the base of the light for drainage. I have been to the DIY store and I see those plastic blocks are sold in longer sections...

Re: Kitchen Lights Fusing Consistantly - Any Ideas on the Cause?

Thank you for that. About a month before this happened I had a leak into the integral garage. It took me ages to find a roofer to solve the problem and I mentioned to him the problem I had with my kitchen lights (that had occurred about a month after the leak). I thought it a possibility but then co...

Kitchen Lights Fusing Consistantly - Any Ideas on the Cause?

Some time ago I switched my kitchen lights on and there was a pop as the fuse blew, turning all the downstairs ceiling lights off. All the wall lights/plugs still worked. I removed all of the bulbs (5 spots), replaced the fuse and tried again. Same issue. It will happen regardless whether any other ...

Re: New Exterior Light But Spare Cables Remain After Fitting

Proptech Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, the light and I are in separate locations right now, but will take some this evening, although I doubt whether it will show up the problem clearly. I am probably being over-cautious. However, I feel as though I haven't done the job properly. I had...
