Perfect, thanks. My fault. I was turning the switch the 'right way' up after swapping the wires. Of course, there is no right way up, as long as it works as intended! :)
Hmmm, that doesn't work. I can now turn on the hall light from the right hand switch as I wanted, but when I flick the switch for the outdoor lights the hall light goes off..... tried combinations of the permanent live & the neutral in both L1 & L2 with no joy?

OK, this is giving me a headache! Two Gang Switch as shown in the attached image. The red wire with the black mark on it is the permanent live. As looking at it in the photo, the switch at the right (left hand side if you were looking at it fitted on the wall) controls a hall light and the other one...
OK, struggling to get an answer to this one - I bought a HVLP spray gun, initially to do our 50m of fencing - great; should have bought one years ago.... anyway.... ....
