Suggestions for Thin Sliding Doors for Kitchen Storage Cabinet

I have a shallow (17cm deep) shelving unit in melamine which I want to retrofit sliding doors onto. It's 2m high x 1m wide, is to be used for kitchen storage of glasses, tins, etc.

Any suggestions for door material, and suitable sliding door gear?

How to Remove Ventilation Brick in Bedroom Wall to Replace with Sliding Vent?

How should I set about removing a ventilation brick in a bedroom wall like the one in my picture? I want to replace it with a sliding vent. I'm concerned I might destroy part of the wall if I try a hammer and chisel!
