Re: Advice on DIY Repair of LPG Patio Heater

Well, didn't get any responses, so here's what I did, in case anyone's interested! Dismantled heater to reveal the burner assembly. No soot or dirt apparent. Disconnected the the pilot pipe from the gas valve and released from the pilot tube. Immersed the pilot nozzle in a bowl of water and blew thr...

Advice on DIY Repair of LPG Patio Heater

My propane patio heater won't work, but I can't find anyone to repair it. I've searched the Gas Safe Register for people qualified for LPG and Leisure, but none in my area will do that work. I've seen You-tube videos on how to repair them. Is it advisable to try a DIY repair? The problem is that the...

Re: Solution for Solving Dust Mask Steaming up Glasses

I've actually finished that particular dusty job, but I'm sure I've got plenty more in the pipeline. The two-mask solution did help a lot, but I'll definitely look into your recommendation.

Many thanks!

Solution for Solving Dust Mask Steaming up Glasses

I'm in the middle of upgrading the loft insulation - horrible dusty job! I'm wearing a coversuit and a £1 dust mask from Wickes, which work fine. That is, except when I have to put my glasses on - they steam up immediately, so I have to take the dust mask off to do anything I need to see close-up. D...

True!

At least I've got another 4 spares if that happens. Or I might just get a new ceiling light.

Re: G4 LED Light Flashing Mystery After Replacing Original 20W Bulbs

Sorry for delay coming back on this. Got diverted by a job in the loft.

Tried the light today with 1 x 20w halogen and 4 x LEDs. Working fine. The halogen looks slightly warmer than the LEDs, but it's not very noticeable.

Thanks again.

Re: G4 LED Light Flashing Mystery After Replacing Original 20W Bulbs

Many thanks for the reply.

I might try leaving one or two of the original 20w bulbs in and see how that works. Or find a new ceiling light.

G4 LED Light Flashing Mystery After Replacing Original 20W Bulbs

I have a ceiling light with 5 x G4 bulbs. Last week, I replaced the 20w original bulbs with 2.2w 12v LEDs. At first, there was a bit of a flicker with the new LED bulbs. So I pushed them to make sure they were properly 'in' and all seemed fine. When I switched them on today, there was more of a flic...

Moving Cables above Loft Insulation - Update on Solution

After ericmark's response to my earlier thread, I read up on Reference Method 101. Never heard of Reference Methods before, being a simple DIY-er! Apart from learning something new, it's changed my view. Everything I'd read about loft insulation said that cables must be moved above it. And that 'pro...

Re: Moving Cables above 270mm Loft Insulation to Avoid Overheating

Many thanks, ericmark. Checked in the loft last night, and the only cable other than lighting is for the immersion heater. There's enough slack in that to move it above the insulation. So just the lighting to deal with. Step 1 will be to replace the 50w halogen bulbs with LEDs. I'll read up on some ...

Moving Cables above 270mm Loft Insulation to Avoid Overheating

I'm planning to upgrade my loft insulation to 270mm. I've read much on this site and elsewhere saying that cables should be above the insulation to avoid overheating. And of course, lots say it's not worth bothering. For safety, I'd prefer to move cables above the insulation, but as ever, there's no...
