Recommendations for WC

I am looking to replace a WC in downstairs cloakroom. Not looking for anything fancy, just a nice modern unit, probably close-coupled. The one feature it must have is a good, strong flush to deal with those annoying bits of "large waste". Can anyone recommend a WC that is particularly good...

Fixing Cupboard to Plasterboard

My friend has just moved to a new house and, apparently, the walls are plasterboard with a 3 inch gap before thermal blocks (assume there is also some insulation between too) But, the bottom line is that there is nothing solid to fix screws into. She would like to hang a cupboard on the wall - I've,...

What to use to stick a ceiling tile?

I need to replace a single ceramic ceiling tile and am not sure what the best adhesive is to use. Also, because it is just one tile I would rather not have to buy a massive quantity! The tile is 240mm x 335mm and about 10mm thick, so, there is a bit of weight in it and I need to be sure it is not go...

Adhesive for Ceiling Panels

I have decided to fit some PVC panels above our shower area and am struggling to find a suitable adhesive to use. All the ones I've seen so far (Pinkgrip, etc.) have a few reviews saying they have not stuck well. The panels should be pretty light - 5mm thick, 250mm wide and total area is 870mm x 116...

Getting Wood Effect Graining on Bedside Tables

Just taken delivery of a couple of bedside tables, which are a light grey/silver wood effect and realise the rest of the bedroom furniture doesn'y match very well (beech effect from IKEA!) One thought is to paint these a light grey colour, but, it would be even better if we could introduce a grain e...

Restore a Ideal Standard Domi Solo White Tap

I have an Ideal Standard Domi Solo basin tap that has a white finish - not sure if it is enamel or some other finish. Anyway, after 20+ years usage parts of the white finish has yellowed and has one or two chips in it. Having initially thought of replacing it then I found that this tap or, indeed, a...

Advice Needed About Wiring for Underfloor Heating

I own a flat that has a very old electric underfloor heating system - it is like a huge storage heater in that it heats the floor up overnight and then slowly releases the heat during the day. The only controls are some room thermostats which, I guess, control the amount of heat stored. The system i...
