Re: Smoke Detector Chiruping

It sounds like it has a rechargeable battery that is indeed going low, but when the mains are restored it charges the battery so it is no longer low. But without more information (Such as Make/model how often it chirps, what colour "lights" are on, how many times do they flash, how often d...

Re: Advice on how to remove tap head

It would be silly for the tap on one side to have a different fixing than the tap on the other side, so you should be able to use the same size Allen key on both sides.

Re: Advice on how to remove tap head

Why not hold a small mirror behind it?

Re: New property acquired

To change the size of pictures you should use a picture resizer, lots of free one available, (Your computer may have one already in your photo viewer) but in your case it would be a waste of time as most radiators have no markings. You need a heating engineer to service/maintain your boiler and radi...

Re: Power tool - how to properly connect to mains?

The plug and socket you have are NOT compatible, they are desigend not to fit for a reason. Blue accesories are used on 240V ac Yellow accesories are used on110V ac Have a look for the power rating plate on your table saw and see what that says the voltage is that it runs at (Or take a picture and p...

Re: Toilet water

Have you looked in the cistern? What happens if you take a sample of water and leave it (in a glass) on a shelf? Try the same with the hand basin.

Re: Concealed Toilet - Discolored Water

The toilet bowl is the only place you would expect to see water from the "mains" standing in the open for a few hours, so I wonder, fill a glass from the handbasin, leave it to stand for a few hours, what happens? It may be nothing to do with the toilet.

Re: Connection to septic tank - a bit of help please!

You don't want to connect to the wrong pipe, call a specialist septic tank pumping company and ask them to come and look. (Septic tanks must be pumped out every few years.)

Re: Replacing a wall-switch with a smart switch

Carry on with your idea then. I do note, most "smart switches" require a back box of 35mm, the average lighting back box is 16 mm, you may be lucky and have a 25mm box, but you can get "extenders" instead of changing the back box. I have been perusing several smart switches and n...

Re: Replacing a wall-switch with a smart switch

What you have is called 2 way switching. (If the three switches you mention control the same light or lights at the same time, you have 2 way and intermediate) There is no such thing as a smart 2 way switch. (Or two-way and intermediate) You would have to change all 3 switches at the same time to co...

Re: Earthing a ceiling light?

(Lighting is not a ring main) In your case, you have to provide your own terminal. Put it in a wago or a single connector block. Do NOT cut it off.

Re: Condensation in loft ?

Sofit vents. You may already have them, but they could be blocked with all that glass fibre insulation you have. You will have to have a look.
The other thing is, where is all the damp air coming from? Lofts are usually cold and windy.
