Re: Advice on Repairing a Broken Lamp

You need a means to secure the lamp holder to what remains, I suspect the part for the job is broken, even if it wasn't broken, you, by your own admission would not know what to do. However, since your neighbour is of the opinion it can be repaired, ask him to do it. I understand you don't want to d...

Re: Advice on Repairing a Broken Lamp

Was it by any chance knocked it over? It doesn't need a new cable, the part that would secure the lamp holder is missing. It looks like a generic production line lamp = no spares. No spares, no repair. Nothing you can do with it.

@ch3shirecat4, if it was a el cheapo brand I would agree with you, but he did say Miele.

Have you seen the price of the average Miele, (£1,149.00) They are also expected to last for at least 20 years

Re: Simulanrous TV display on Clover Book and TV

I just looked, there are several HDMI splitters available that can have 1 input and send it to 2 outputs (TV screens) As with most online purchases, read the reviews first.

Re: Switch 2 hinge doors for sliding doors between kitchen and living room

I suspect as there is a kitchen they might be fire rated doors, you would need to check first. Even if they are not, it will neither be easy or cheap to alter them.

Re: Washing machine blows fuse in operation or after cycle ends

You need the services of a person who works with your brand of washing machine all day, call Miele and ask them how much call out is and what is or is not covered. It will not be the heating element as it only comes on in "heat pause" and it would happen every time, which it does not, call...

Re: 3 Gang Light Switch upgrade help

Hello, you mean can you swap a conventional switch to a smart switch? Unless it was rewired in the last few years, the answer is NO, you can not swap the switches over. 🤨 The main reason is most smart switches require a Neutral (as does yours as denoted by the letter N. on the proposed switch) UK ho...

Since they can not go through the hole as they are too big, you will have to make them smaller. I would suggest you cut through the bolt with a hacksaw, or better still a small angle grinder.

Re: Replacing a 13 amp single socket with a fused connection unit

You can not spur from a spur.
However, you could (as you said) change the socket to a fused connection unit, then supply any further sockets from the fused side of this FCU this would be ok. I will leave testing it up to you.

Re: Installing Touch light switches on 3-way and 4-way circuit

will these meet my requirements and would I simple purchase 4 of them for the 4-way requirement for my electrician to fit? My guess would be they will be no use to you. The "problem" I have is there is no technical drawing for them, so it is not possible to be precise. I also note they wo...

Re: Smart Switch Wiring in Old House

The reason you have 6 wires (and earth) is because it is 2 way switching. That means you can turn a light on here, go elsewhere and turn the same light off (Upstairs and downstairs?) It needs that number of wires to work. If you are going to have a smart switch have you considered that you should ha...

Re: 3 gang switch headache

In the U.K. There is no colour code for wiring lights, so it is not possible to say "This colour wire goes here, and that colour wire goes there" you are going to have to call an electrician, look at your previous photo or trial and error

Re: Shower Waste Pump

The choice of pump depends upon what it is to be pumped, how far away it is to pump it to, and what the voltage available is. You do not say.
