Re: Thermostatic Bath and Shower Mixer tap Problem

Sounds very much to me as though the hot and cold pipes on the thermostatic valve are fitted the wrong way around. It's normally anti-clockwise for cooler and the red button is a safety button so you cannot accidentally turn the temperature above 38 degrees, it's certainly not to make the water cool...

Re: Toilet Bowl Water Level too low in Fairly new Bathroom

That sounds like a venting problem. The water flushing from the toilet cannot draw air to equalise the pressure so is in effect trying to draw air from the bowl causing the water level to drop, if that makes sense. Fitting an air admittance valve should solve the problem. How easy it is to do that i...

Re: Hinge Confusion and Identifyiong Type of Hinge

Just to add. Sometimes with rising hinges the door can simply be lifted off the hinge with only gravity keeping the two sections of the hinge together.

Re: Hinge Confusion and Identifyiong Type of Hinge

Hi They are not too unusual. They are rising butt hinges designed to lift the door over a raised floor as the door opens. Looking at the state on them, the wear and the fact that they are not expensive, it maybe just easier to put new ones on. Just remove the screws, removing the pin is a pain in th...

Re: Scaffolding Left Erected on Site but Company Gone out of Business

Hi When I bought a house and lots of stuff was left behind my solicitor said to cover myself and show I had made reasonable attempts to contact the owner, to send a recorded letter to the last known address and put an ad in the local paper, stating that unless it was removed within 14 days I would b...

Re: Applying Sealant Around Curved Shower Base

Hi, I do a lot of sealing and being honest would not use the masking tape method. It's never that neat as the sealant frays as you pull off the tape. This method also leaves a ridge on the joint which collects water and mould.. The other thing to bear in mind is that as a rule a curved surface with ...

Re: Cutting and Fitting for Integral Kitchen Sinks

Hi, Integral or integrated sinks are usually made from the same material as the worktop and the sink is "integrated" into the worktop by joining with adhesive or welded depending on the material. The joints are then ground, sanded and if required polished, so that the sink looks seamless t...

Re: Long Shot for the Dream Life and Self Build Project

I think you could work something out if you tried hard enough. If you call it an agricultural enterprise and you have animals, you may find it a lot easier to get planning for an agriculturally tied dwelling, if you intend just to live on it and not think of it as too much of an investment being tie...

Re: Chipped Polished Concrete Floor Repair

I take it it's a polished concrete floor or the concrete is the final finish. If so it's a bit of a specialist job being honest, getting the bonding, colour and finish right is not easy. . The hardest part will be matching the colour and sanding it back to blend in. If you still want to give it a go...

Re: Fill Hole Around a Radiator Pipe

Easiest way is just to fill it with any filler, sand back best you can and cover it with a snap on talon which will cover most of the filler. https://www.screwfix.com/p/talon-15mm-p ... pack/19706 If you look around you can even find larger diameter ones to completely cover the filler.

Hi ColinK It's obviously hard to see from the pics and can't get access to the video. My only comments would be : The glass inside or outside stickers don't apply to all types of glass. But if it does in this case and the glass units have been put in the wrong way round then just ask the fitters to ...

Re: Converting Pull Switch to Neon Pull Swith for Extractor Fan

I fan isolating switch should be three pole like this one. Ie. 2 live ins and outs and one neutral in and out. m If it has only one live in and live out then it is not really suitable for timer fan. You need two live supplies for a timer fan. One switched (usually supplied from the light switch or l...

Re: How Many Polisher Tools for Restoring Headlights?

Hi Eric and welcome to the Forum. Polishing and sanding is subject too vast to go into in detail here but I can give you some insight into it. Firstly polishing and sanding requires lower speeds than most conventional tools as not to overheat or burn the tools or workpiece. They generally require mo...

Re: Removing Porcelain Tile on Top of Electric Underfloor Heating

Sorry to say it but I think you may struggle not to damage the underfloor heating. I have never heard of it being done successfully with the mesh type. I managed it once but the heating element was the thick wire and not the mesh type, even so I damaged one wire and had to repair it. I would say you...
