Insulation missing near eaves of house?

Hi I suffer with cold spots and condensation on a north facing external bedroom wall. I've crawled on some boards in the loft today to look at the insulation and want to know the correct area to go up to - I know blocking ventilation into the loft can cause problem for the loft itself. All the insul...

Re: Condensation or something more sinister

Hi scg1889, If you have insulated cavities it is possible that the insulation is missing at the top of this part of the wall. This can happen when blown insulation is installed. Regards S Thanks a lot for your reply stoneyboy. Yes the house had blown insulation done before we moved in. What would b...

Condensation or something more sinister

Hi, In the corner of our wall in our bedroom we have a damp spot. Nothing on the ceiling and doesn't particularly feel wet to touch. We've been in the house 7 years and not had it before but like the rest of the population have had the heating on much less this winter. So wondered if the cold could ...

Would oil based paint prevent this wear and tear?

I painted some of my internal doors about 2 years ago with water based Dulux Gloss Quick Dry Wood & Metal. I'm generally happy with the finish and how easy it was to apply and find water based paints much more forgiving for any spills and cleaning brushes but on the edge of the door the paint ha...

Hot water intermittently not responsive in 1 tap and 1 shower

Hi Wonder if you could help me try and diagnose a problem. I've got a traditional gravity fed hot water / heating set up. Initially the hot water from the kitchen tap would pause about 2 seconds before it flowed but this only happened about once every 4 weeks. As time's gone by this has become more ...

Hot water on Kitchen mixer taking it's time to start running

Hi, Our Kitchen mixer tap has slowly over last 6 months started to take a few seconds before any hot water appears. It's not every day but today it took a full 10 seconds from switching the tap on to any hot water appearing. Rest of the house is absolutely fine for hot water taps and after it's had ...

Fitting new Door Handle Should I use Wood Screws or Bolt Through?

Hi, I'm replacing a bathroom door handle with lock. The current handles have 4 screws in each corner and i've got a replacement which has 2 holes in the top and bottom centre. newhandle.jpg It's come with wood screws and bolt through screws and instructions are a bit confusing as to which to fit. Wo...
