archmoco,
Fixing just into the plaserboard will definately not be strong enough, you will need to fix into the concrete beams. I don't know how you will be able to avoid the joins between the beams or the steel reinforcement which will probably be present in the beams. Overall don't do it!

highlander, The buttons lever out of the top of the chrome bezel, underneath is a screw which needs to be removed so that the bezel and cistern lid can be removed. Check the height of the water level in the cistern there is usually a line on the back of the cistern. Refit in reverse order, unscrew t...

schweetpants,
Sorry no it does not make sense. The chimey has been removed? or does it sit at an angle? or does the liner follow the current chimney? Where has the flue pipe and steel pipe come from?
If you can be a little more precise that would be great..

Stu Magoo, Fit the soffit vents along the two long sides. The problem will be finding where the rafter ends are. Aim to fit a vent between every 2nd or 3rd rafter. Don't forget that with the age of your house it is likely that the original soffits you will have to cut through will probably be asbest...

How often do you open the windows in the bays? You need to do this to eliminate the possibility of condenstaion before looking for more serious problems.

Most likely cause is condensation. Get hold of a cheap humidity meter and if the reading is consistently above 70% you need to get more fresh air in your home. Opening windows is the cheapest solution.

andrew-webber, If the plumbing had been done correctly the CH tank should have been put on a platform so that the levels of water in the two tanks would be near enough the same. This way there is no differential pressure between the two systems. That way if the heating coil does perforate then there...

dan1 You don't say how large your house is, whether its listed or whether its occupied. For a small 3 bed house £10-20,000. If it is occupied you will need a temporary roof over it - add £10,000. Difficult site conditions, unforseen problems, listing, poor condition of existing tiles will all add £1...

Wiema,
you need to cross ventilate the roof space either by adding new vents or unblocking the ones you refer to.
In time this will dry out the existing insulation but don't add any extra insulation until this has happened.

andrew-webber,
What are the relative levels of the water surface in the cold water tank and the CH tank? If the water is higher in the cold water tank it is very likely that the coil in the hot water cylinder has perforated allowing water to pass between the two systems.

rose,
If you mean a continuous regular knocking sound the most likely cause is that the jumper on the valve on a radiator fed by the pipe is loose and is suddenly turning off the flow to the radiator. Check by opening the valves (both ends) on radiators fed by the noisy section of pipe.

Each of the rafters will need looking at individually and their remaining strength assessed - good ones treated and bad ones treated and strengthened with additional rafters. With the age of the ...
