Re: Stripping Paint From 1930's Staircase

Hi As chas57 says, old paint is notoriously hard to strip off, especially if it's lead-based and by the sound of it I would say there's a good chance that it is. If so you are right to be concerned about disturbing it, you don't want to release any dust into the air that can be breathed it. We do ha...

Re: Tanking the Cellar Walls and Floor for Dry Storage Space

Hi

Yes, level the floor first and then once all cured, crack on with the tanking.

We also have a project page on levelling floors here that may help: https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/l ... floors.htm

Re: Tanking the Cellar Walls and Floor for Dry Storage Space

Hi

All holes of any kind in walls need to be 100% filled with a 4 / 1 sand cement mix before the slurry is put on.

More information on tanking can be found in our project here: https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/tanking.htm and also in this project: https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/u ... oofing.htm

We also have a video on youtube that you might also find useful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdAqnJDRjHM

Hope this helps

Re: Tips and Advice on How to Purchase Aggregates

Hi

The type of aggregate that you want to go for will very much depend on what it is being used for e.g. drainage, concreting etc.

We have a project page that goes through the most common types of aggregate and what they are used for that may help you further: https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/t ... regate.htm

Re: Question Regarding Render on Parapet Walls

Hi Theres no legal or building regs to have walls rendered, render is either done for water proofing or visual effect. If your wall looks ok and isn't leaking, there is no reason why it should be rendered just because the others are. If your roof/wall is water proof as it is, it isn't going to be an...

Are you just trying to fill the joints between patio slabs?

Do you have a picture you could post so that we can see what you are trying to achieve?

Re: Leaking Radiator Valve and Turning Radiator off

Hi The “spout” is a drain valve but on looking at the image I can’t see any way of isolating it. Most moder radiators will feature something similar to the below image. As you can see, just after the drain spout on the left, there is a valve lockinging screw that can be screwed in to lock the valve ...

Re: How to Attach Lino to a Wall

To ensure that any areas in your bathroom that are subjected to water and splashing e.g. around the bath and inside the shower stay as waterproof ...
