Re: ? Non Standard Tubular Latch Size

Hi deeko99,
You may be able to find a latch with adjustable backset, if not you may have to use a 3 inch backset one and adjust the handle position slightly.

Re: Fill valve won't stop nor flush - Easy to fix myself?

Hi scotdiy86,
If you can identify the flush valve manufacturer and get a new valve replacing it is a matter of turning the valve and lifting it out of the mounting boss. The fill valve is best replaced.

Re: Waste water for washing machine and dishwasher

Hi jackjack492,
For connecting two appliances you will have to replace the existing trap with a McAlpine double appliance trap.

Re: Bolt Stuck in Brickwork

Hi nick17, Use a masonry drill a bit larger than the bolt and drill directly above it to the full depth of the bolt. Using a punch drive the bolt into the new hole so you can remove it. Use anchorfix to fill the holes when you refit the grating but make this the last bolt you fit - it will only need...

Re: Plinth and pebble dash crumbled off

Hi Alex ok,
The pebble dash layer does nothing to protect you house from water ingress. Just leave it until you can get the pebble dash re-created.

Re: How to repair these wood frame windows

Hi nubidiyer,
Sorry but your chances of renovating the frame and it lasting are pretty remote. Best to get it replaced with a upvc window.

Re: Replacing a bathroom wall tile but backing has come away as well

Hi diypatient,
It looks like there is only standard dot and dab fitted plaster board behind your tiles. Tidy up the hole shape and fit a new piece of plasterboard using board adhesive. Use the board adhesive to give a level surface and tile on this.

Re: damp bathroom floor 1930s house

Hi lydialala, In view of the age of your house it may be that there was no integral DPM but bitumen adhesive/paint with a layer of asbestos based tiles formed the DPM. Suggest you remove all loose material, paint a couple of layers of bituminous paint over the whole floor, then apply a layer of self...

Re: Adding a DPM for log cabin floor insulation, after the battens have already been laid

Hi b4con, Since you already have a DPM in the concrete base there would be no advantage in adding another one. Ideally you need the PIR boards to be level with the top of your floor joists, if the boards when fitted are below the top of the floor joists fit strips of timber fixed to the sides of the...

Hi gavski1,
I don’t think it’s a good idea to stick down your wood floor, probably better to use an underlay designed for this purpose.

Re: Wall height

Hi jintynut,
Sorry to hear you have health issues and will have to employ a contractor.
I suspect that if you try drilling a 14mm hole in the centre concrete core, that you may split it. How about drilling 6.5mm holes, screwing in 100x6mm stainless screws and casting around them.

Re: Wall height

Hi jintynut, Thanks for the reply - I can now envisage what you propose but I think you are making it over complicated and expensive. Try hiring a Hilti drill and bit for just one day and see how easy it is, or not as the case may be. I hope you don’t mind me asking but why do you need to reinforce ...

Re: Tyvek or similar on external blockwork

Hi whydidistartthis ,
Provided your external cladding is weatherproof the is little to be gained by including a layer of breathable felt.
Inevitably in cold weather damp will condense on the inside of the cold exterior cladding, a breathable membrane will not prevent this.

Hi jintynut,
I don’t think your proposal will work because the drill stand action will just lift the whole assembly as you try to drill a hole.

Re: Fixing Bike Rack to Shed Wall

Hi greek, You have what is called through bolts, they work well in brick type walls where you can drill a clean hole the same size as the sleeve. The sleeve expands at the end when the bolt is tightened so they are not very good in aerated concrete walls or similar soft walls . Check to ensure the e...
