Re: Faulty immersion timer for dual immersion tank system?

As said, landlords problem. However the main reason for a timer is when you have off peak power, the idea is an immersion near bottom of tank works during off peak times, and one near top is set to lower temperature can cuts in when you run out of water heated with off peak. In many homes the off pe...

Re: Which is misbehaving: My mains power or my Computer UPS?

Call the DNO (electric supplier not billing agent) as this can be caused by loss of PEN, it is rare, but if it does happen it can damage all sorts of equipment in the house.

It is unlikely due to any fault within the home, more likely a supply fault. If you want to know more, some reading here https://electrical.theiet.org/wiring-ma ... roken-pen/

Re: Smart thermostatic radiator valves - need smart thermostat?

I am uncertain why with linked TRV heads we have a wall thermostat, a hub yes, but why does it need to measure temperature? Only reason I can think of is so if the TRV heads go wrong, it will over ride and turn off the heating. The Honeywell Evohome seems to act as a simple hub, rest seem to have a ...

Re: LED controller killed in the Conservatory - unknown weapon

I looked up TUYA and it seems they use Zigbee, I also use Zigbee for one of my RGB strip lights, the idea of Zigbee is each item can act as a repeater for the next, so the power required for the RF link is very low. My zigbee controller was from the internet, the lamp from Lidi and internet comes fr...

Use of smart devices, discussion.

Over the years I have fitted so called smart devices for a variety of reasons, however the problem has been to work out what will do what, so I hope my experience will one help others, and two others can add their experiences. It started in my late mothers house, lack of two way switching in bedroom...

Re: LED controller killed in the Conservatory - unknown weapon

I had a wallmart fail with one of mine, and using a meter was a problem as with no load they shut down, but had two the same so swapped bits to test.

How are you testing?

Re: Portable Air Con Window Seal Help

I made a front for the fire so the hot air goes up the chimney. This means no windows open so can plug the AC into a smart adaptor and switch it on before we return home.

I tried the frame on the window it was a failure.

Re: Running outdoor lighting from Rewireable plug

A google for Powermaster 469272 In-Line Active Outdoor RCD 16A 230V~ 50Hz fails to get important details. A further hunt and did find rated at 30 mA @ 30 mS but does not state type A or type AC, but why would one need one if the socket is RCD protected anyway? If a resent install it will already be ...

Re: Tidying up ugly internal plugs

Looking for some thing else I came across this web site https://copleydecor.co.uk/ and it seems they do covings and skirting boards designed to take cables behind them.

With grid systems you can get face plates independent to socket, but they are more expensive so in the main no point.

Re: Smart thermostatic radiator valves - need smart thermostat?

With a modulating boiler the TRV can do most the control required and setting it up is the problem as wall thermostat needs to be slightly higher than the TRV so it only turns off on warm days. But this has not really worked with non modulating boilers. So mothers house it worked fine, this house no...

Re: Tidying up ugly internal plugs

As said google "pattress box" and you will see many options, it seems cable is surface so there are limits, you can get skirting trunking but it seems to be a silly price, CEF seems around the cheapest with their Centaur range. Personally I have used T2 trunking on top of the skirting boar...

Re: What kind of Alexa compatible Smart Switch do I need to replace this please?

This was the first forum I started to use, and have continued to use it other than for a short time I was kicked off after some one complained my post was dangerous. The problem with the vet first method is that the sysop can't really say we removed it as soon as we realised, as the sysop sees it fi...

The idea of a multi-fuel system has been around for some time, the water tank is a energy battery and also a method to combine multi-fuels, however the expense of the installation means rarely used, my brother-in-law had it fitted to last house, an...

Re: Extractor fans fail to kick in

Many fans have bearing which are sintered bronze that hold oil for an extended amount of time, but do wear out, and not cost effective to change them, so only option is fit a new fan. However we can't be sure that is the case with yours, and an electricians call out charge varies area to area. Some ...

You find other simply read and act on the replies, this is why I try to make the reply so when others read it, they will not due to a small change cause danger. The smart revolution seems to have turned things on their head, the worry to me is the two and three gang switches which have just one feed...
