Re: Usage Meter for Oil Central Heating

I would also like to see how much oil is used, and likely best option would be to connect an old electric clock to the little light which says it's running. However not too keen going inside boiler to connect it up. If the boiler plugged in it would be easy, a simple energy monitor, but it does not,...

Re: Which light switch should I buy?

Energenie do a smart switch pair that has a master and slave, so work like two way switches, but I had 5 Energenie light switches, now down to 2, where they have failed, OK some were 5 years old, and not had any other make that long, but they default off, so if a bulb blows they switch off, and any ...

Re: Changing a ceiling light

The standard UK method is to use the ceiling rose as a junction box, in some other countries they use the switch back box as a junction box, there are pros and cons with each method. So standard was three cables, two were red, black and earth, one was two reds and earth, so feed in, feed out to next...

Have you looked at smart relays, switches, and bulbs. I have given some examples in the other forum where you have asked same question.

Re: Adapter plug replacement for drill?

A battery may have the electronics to charge it built into the battery or the charger, batteries can go on fire if over charged, and I can't read the details on the charger shown. But I have same problem myself, I have one odd drill which takes a different battery to the rest, if either the battery ...

Re: Running socket off heating spur

No real way to know, in theroy anyone installing electrics should follow rules which will stop a dangerous over load, if overloaded a fuse should blow or another overload device should trip.

But you simply don't know if the rules were followed or not, so can't give an answer.

Re: Storage heater wiring across threshold

As said there is a list of installation methods and not seen one which says under carpet. If you go to Batt cables web site they do list with each cable type the current carrying capacity with diffrent installion methods. Burying steel wire armoured under a carpet would be reasonably safe, but not s...

Re: Advice on adding under cabinet kitchen lights

I have moved to smart lights due to the problem getting the wiring in, and having three switches in different locations the lights never get used. So hey google turn on living room lights turns them all on, hey google turn on living room main turns just the main one on. I use Nest Mini speakers. In ...

Re: Radiator making buzzing noise

I am not a plumber, so limited to my own houses for experience, old TRV heads seem to be larger thread to new ones, M30 x 1.5 mm seems to be the standard now, replacement heads also come with adaptors for RA, RAV, and RAVL heads what ever they are, and with a M30 x 1.5 mm thread it is easy to swap h...

@Mr white is right, I have used a multi-meter for years, but moved the the clamp-on type as it does not have a wired amp range, so can't make an error that causes a direct short. Mine also has a non contact volts range. this shows my old yellow and ne...

Re: Switch problems on Union Graduate wood lathe

The start relay often has a hold on contact, I will guess this has welded contacts, but so many methods are used, would need photos of inside the starter or some thing which gives us a clue what's inside it.

Re: Outdoor lights with two switches - confused

I also needed outside lights, the Part L building regulations require the lights to auto switch off at dawn, so there needs to be a method to do that. I took the easy option, I use TP-Link (Tapo) switches and socket adaptors plus some smart lamps so I can set the lamps to switch off at dawn, the oth...
