Re: Dual actuator control panel wiring

As Ericmark says too many possibilities but as new window/control, data should have been supplied with it.
Ask supplier for info, or where purchased. it is dangerous to guess.

Re: Neutral as Earth

Hi this seems most unlikely to be the case,
are you sure the '2nd neutral' is not in fact an earth but wrongly sleeved with a piece of black instead of green/yellow?

Re: Rubber cabling

Hi, no need to talk to LABC if you use a registered electrician member of Elecsa/NAPIT/BRE/niceic they can register the work through their scheme which costs around £2.50 as opposed to you registering direct which costs around £250.00 to LABC! Also if done direct with LABC you will just get a bit of...

Re: Canadian appliances in UK

Hi, yes this is OK my parents did this when returning from Vancouver some years ago. Problems to be aware of: First thing make sure you bring back box(s) for the outlet(s) since they don't fit UK ones. Next, you will take up considerable cupboard space with a 230-110v transformer which will need to ...

Re: Complete rewire Help!

Actual wording states "...shall be no worse than before..." so you're OK. Do stay in regular contact with your electrician who is doing you a HUGE favour allowing you to do some of the install, since he is signing to say HE has done all of the work himself! It is not permitted under Part P...

Re: RCD trip when circuit off

I think whilst all comments/calcs are valid the point is not one of voltage but of milli-Amps! Quote"it's the volts that 'jolts' it the 'mils' that kills". If virtually any load is connected to an RCD A device which works of course on current imbalance between L&N, then touching N-Eart...

Re: MCB, RCD & RCBO`s

Yount03, Whilst some comments made are relevent, ie Hager ML range of RCBO's are double pole single module devices does this mean anything to you? Without wishing to be rude are you competant to do this work? will you be paying your Local Authority Building controls £250+ inspection fee and do you h...

Re: Stud or ring main ? What's best ?

Just to expand on Russell Fields valid comments on the drawbacks of ring circuits and to clarify ericmark's ref. to spurs protected by fuse in plug. Ring circuits are not the only time cable CCC (Current Carrying Capacity) are less than the protective device since it also applies to 4mm radial on 32...

Re: Nuisance RCD tripping

Hi,
No reason why PV should give problem, it does need some extensive/expensive test equipment to test system and RCD so not really DIY.
If common RCD it may be a number of small leakages causing the trips, RCD's are quite reliable normally.

Re: solar panels and night storage econ 7

Hi all, as has been said on here I believe the whole operation of these systems is being misunderstood. Lets take an example of a system which on a sunny day produces 2kW of energy. the system can't be just connected to a piece of equipment such as a heater, it would be pointless anyway as the only ...

So it's the load then!
2kW heater 8+ Amps, hairdryer 3 Amps'ish, lamp 0.1Amp, drill 1Amp'ish, Vac 3 Amp'ish.
turn thermostat down before switching off-no flash?

Hi, without knowing some more it's difficult to state as systems vary but if you go to home page, click on projects, scroll down to central heating-hot water systems, click on then scroll down to indirect type and I'm sure yours will be there, with drawings .

Re: Help ! How does an actuator work?

Hi, I think Plumbob missed the bit about advancing the HW to get heating to operate. I think the actuator valve is stuck, 3 port valves are by design a 'bodge-up'! They work by powering a motor against a spring, for one position full power is provided to open one port fully; for mid position the pow...

Re: flash occurs whe unplugging equipment from wall socket

Further to Blakeys comment, does this only occur with a load ie heater etc plugged in? if so it's possible to see arc from switch contact in some cheap sockets due to thin /poor quality plastic.

Re: Bathroom light

Hi,
Has the fitting been changed as it sounds like a wrong/loose connection, not much to go on!
Type of fitting/lamp ie standard or low energy, some clues would help.
