dan007,
Do use some form of frost proofer in your mix and try not to carry out the rendering when frost is forecast. Frost can remain deep in your bags of bulk sand for days - check for lumps of frozen sand or you will be re-doing the rendering.

slicedbread, I cannot recall ever coming across a central heating expansion pipe in anything other that 15mm. Your expansion pipe should be an inverted U and I would suggest you try raising the height of the top of the U so that the system can operated at a higher pressure without water being pumped...

McLean, You could use a dry lining adhesive but I would strongly recommend you use plasterboard with the insulation already bonded to it. If you are lining solid external walls then you are very likely to get problems with condensation forming behind the plasterboard. Even if the walls are cavity wa...

Alistair, I asume you have eliminated problems with your thermostat and CH controller. If you can move the manual operator it is unlikely that the problem is with the plumbing side of the valve. If the valve is relatively new you can fit a replacement head without draining down the system. Make sure...

Provides the chimney liner is sound there is no need to line the chimney. Don't forget to provide access to sweep the chimney and a cowl on top to limit the ingress of rainwater.

dawks,
If its a timber door and frame you need to remove the lock plate, recut the recess and move the plate nearer the sealing strip. If its and aluminium or upvc door there is generally enough slack in the lock plate to make the adjustment - undo the screws and move it.

armitageshanks, A temporary solution would be to put a de-humidifier in the loft, preferably one with a permenant drain. A permanent solution is to ventilated the loft area with eaves vents and tile vents or a combination of both depending on your roof configuration. It would be wise to fully lag yo...

The only problem which may occur is that the water in the pipes in the area of the expansion tank freeze and then there is no safety device for expansion. Because the woodchip boiler does not have any inherent means of instant shutdown in an over-temperature situation a pressure relief valve should ...

Leo,
You could try replacing the shower valve and head with one designed for low pressure, you need something which is claimed to work at 0.1bar or thereabouts.

samiad, My understanding of the BRegs is that anything over 2 storeys must have a fire protected escape route to the ground floor. I assume the 3 flats (without the loft conversion) have been in existence for many years - all the flats should already have fire doors fitted on the entrance to the com...

macw,
It's a regular problem with these guns, you need to buy some good quality building sand (even fine grains), cement and some hydraulic lime. All these components need to be fresh (so they are free from any lumps) aim for a 6:1:1 mix but you may need to add more lime to make the mix useable.

Roclive, If you wished to comply with current BRegs the flue liner would need to be 200mm diameter for an open fire. If you are going to burn wood the fire will need a lot more air therefore a larger flue. Assuming the lining material is SS I suggest you try burning wood and if the flue is not big e...

Do the bracing rafters of the trusses come down to meet above the wall you are intending to remove. If yes you need to get a structural engineer to pronounce. It may be worth doing this anyway.
