Re: strip light

Hi are you sure the starters you are using are of the correct wattage? 6' fittings are oddities, most standard starters will do a range including 5' & 8' but may not do a 6' correctly. I think 6' tubes are 75Watts and you can't always change tubes from old large diameter type to slimmer ones eit...

Re: Light with 2 swithes

Hi, the fact the next light has stopped working indicates a loop-in wiring method. if you temp. connect brown wires together and blue wires together in 2 connector blocks the next light should work. The 'large black wire with brown centre' could be the switch cable which may be a twin brown type as ...

Re: RCD tripping on new light cuboard light

Hi again, the 2 Neutral bars imply a 'split-load' consumer unit with a main switch and an RCD for half the board. If so normally the sockets etc. would be on the RCD half of the board and lights on the other half. It is essential that any circuits on the board have both Live & neutral on the sam...

Re: Ariston ACO 27 RFFI condensing boiler

Hi,
you may have answered your own question!
The pressure gauge should read between 1-1.5 bar, there should be a filling loop with the boiler, see hand book, which if you don't have one it is available as a down load.
or tech help on 0870 241 8180 or customer help on 0870 600 9888.

Re: RCD tripping on new light cuboard light

Hi Ben, where did you 'directly' connect the neutral? it must go to the same lighting circuit as the live.
If live taken from switch is the neutral also in a connector in the switch box?

Re: Diagnosing fault on new outside lights circuit

Hi my thoughts were as Ericmarks, if it's a newish so called 17th ED. con/unit with main switch and 2 RCD's there are 3 Neutral bars! one not on RCD and used to join main sw. to RCD neutrals, please take another careful look.

Re: eddy currents

This is a well known and documented problem. Guidence note 1 says "live cables (inc Neutrals)of the same circuit may cause overheating if they enter a ferromagnetic enclosure through different openings"; & refers to reg sect 521. Red book 521.5.2 ..."The conductors of an AC circui...

Re: Wall Thermo stat

Hi, short answer No, when hall gets to 18 it will shut boiler down. The system as set up complies with building regs. the hall is used as a cut off point to save boiler cycling. The hall rad should be very small in comparison to the others so other rooms should be up to temp. before hall is, then as...

Re: wiring a two gang two way light switch

hi oastee, If downstairs light working ok then ignore that switch half, which as you say is denoted as seperate by the 'slash'. Rereading your original post leaves me wondering about original circuit as it seems you only have one 3 core cable at the upstairs switch & one 3core and one twin cable...

Re: wiring a two gang two way light switch

Hi, first some correct terminology for the benefit of all: GANG = how many switches on the faceplate ie 2 Gang = 2 independant switches of any sort ie 1 WAY or2 WAY or Intermediate. 1 WAY = On/Off from single position 2 WAY = On/off from 2 positions Intermediate = On/Off from 3 or more positions. So...

Sir, you say you are doing a rewire, presumably you have notified LABC before starting and paid their inspection fee as required by law. Unless of course you are Part-P registered in which case you should know the answers already. If you have I would respectfully suggest obtaining a copy of the 'Ele...

It depends on what Magnet are doing, if no changes to the wiring, ie moving/adding points then no need to update. However as is more likely they are altering/adding to the system then it is highly unlikely they won't have to update the consumerunit as any new circuit must have as a minimum RCD prote...
