Toilet makeing foghorn like noises when flushed

by diy-dave » Fri Apr 18, 2008 2:39 pm

Hi,

Whenever I flush my toilet and it starts to fill up I get a foghorn like noise coming from it or the pipes until the cistern is full. If I turn the cold water tap on the noises stop but continue when I turn it off. I don't get this problem when the bath is emptied.
Any idea what could be causing this?

Thanks.

Hi Dave,

Its a problem with the floatvalve. The pin in the valve will be vibrationg and sending it back down the pipes.

Could just change the washer inside but is easier just to change the whole thing.

Excellent! Thanks very much for the advice Rico, that did the job! No noisy toilet now :)

I did as you suggested and replaced the whole ballvalve, only cost £5. It was a little awkard because of where it was but didn't have any major problems.

Thanks once again.

Cheers,

Dave
