Garden Drainage

by Rousky » Mon May 05, 2008 11:08 pm

We moved into the property 18 months ago and since the bad weather of severe rain, the bottom of the garden is full of water, to a point of a giant puddle. When we had the really bad rain, the water in the garden was nearly a foot deep and spread a considerable distance, which covered the whole of the bottom of the garden.

There was a pond at the bottom of the garden but this has been filled in and its appears if has been filled in with clay soil. The rest of the soil in the garden is also clay and the garden at the bottom seems to have a dip a third of the way up, when you look at it from a distance. The garden finishes with a wall but the problem is a few feet away. Please help as we are unsure if a land dainage would help or there may have been one before and they used the pound as the outlet which has now been filled in.

Please note that there is also problems with the sewage in the area which keeps getting blocked (main sewage for the street, which goes through our garden) which may contribute.

Any advise or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Install a land drain say ( 2- 3 inch pipe with holes ) in the fall direction leading to a soakaway ie lots of pea gravel within a concrete ring if necessary
