P,
IS THERE A GULLY OR GUTTER TO TAKE WATER RUN OFF TO DRAIN VIA A DOWNPIPE?
IF SO, ANY FLASHINGS SHOULD BE CHECKED FOR SECURITY AT JOINTS AND FOR OVERHANG THAT MIGHT PROVIDE A DRIP EDGE FOR WATER RUN OFF INTO GUTTER/GULLY.
ENSURE THAT THE FALL OF THE PAVING IS ADIQUATE, THAT PAVING SLABS ARE SECURE AND DEFINATELY RENEW THE MORTAR POINTING TO THE PAVING AND ANY UPSTANDS THAT THERE MIGHT BE.
RAKE OUT LOOSE STUFF FIRST AND POINT UP USING A FIRM DAMP 3:1 MIX THAT WHEN COMPRESSED IN HAND, IT HOLDS TOGETHER BUT DOES NOT EXUDE WATER AS THIS WILL PREVENT STAINING OF THE PAVING AND ENSURE JOINTS ARE FULL AND DRESSED SMOOTH WITH POINTING IRON/TOOL.
SEALING THE PAVING ISN'T STRICTLY NECESSARY.
IF THERE IS A ROOM BENEATH THE BALCONY, THEN THE ROOF COVERING WILL PREVENT WATER INGRESS HERE.
IF YOU CHOOSE TO SEAL THE AREA, MAKE SURE THE PAVING IS VERY CLEAN, DEGREASED AND DRY BEFORE APPLYING OVER THE WHOLE AREA INCLUDING UPSTANDS.
CHEERS,
ALDA.
