replaced one ceiling rose ... kitchen lights not working now

by handymags » Mon May 26, 2008 11:50 pm

Hi I need some help!

I have just replaced the light fitting in my hallway and I'm sure it's exactly the way it was previously (all the reds together, 2 x blacks to the blue and the black with red sleeve to the brown). The light itself works fine, but now my kitchen lights don't work .... what have I done wrong??? Could I have dislodged a wire to the kitchen lights? Please help!!

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks,

Mags :D

hi handymags,
sounds like it's been wired back together as it should, check all terminals are tight and contacts are good ie there's no insulation in terminals preventing contact. Then check at kitchen light to make sure that all cables are as they should be and have not become loose whilst doing hall light. hopefully you will identify a problem and everything should be okay, if;
Then check switch for kitchen light for loose contection
and be sure that your light bulbs have not blown.
This should all be done with the circuit dead so safely isolate it.
Regards

Sounds like one of the reds or one of the black neutrals has become disconnected at the ceiling rose you were working on.

Check that none of the copper wires has snapped and is no longer providing a connection. Its quite easy to snap the copper core if its not been disturbed for a while and it was getting moved about when you were fitting the new light fitting.
