Possible to change wardrobe colour? [With Pic]

by capitalonedoc » Mon Jun 09, 2008 6:01 pm

Hi

Good day to all.
I am totally new with DIY decoration.
I wish to repaint my wooden wardrobe into dark brown colour.
Is it possible?
Which projects in https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects.htm should I refer to? And what kind of paint should i buy ?

Current wardrobe

can't quite tell from your pictures, are they natural wood or do they have a melamine/plastic laminate finish?

if they are melamine then they can be painted with special paints but the result is often less than satisfactory, its difficult to get rid of the brush marks (doesn't go on with a roller too well), it runs very easily and even though the paint is designed for the purpose it doesn't adhere all that well and chips/flakes quite readily.

international paints do a range for melamine. i'd advise sanding down with a 300 grit sandpaper first to knock off the sheen and help adhesion. time and care required, otherwise they end up looking tatty and worse than when you started! good luck
