I'm leveleling an area of garden 6M x 4M. The 'thin' end starts at the base of a block-built wall on concrete foundations and the area will be bounded by a low wall of similar construction. My question is, when the garden is levelled, there will ber a lot of soil left over. Can I use this soil (possibly on a base of/mixed with hardcore) to fill in and then lay slabs on top of it? It is quite fine, no clay and the ground below 200m is solid. Thanks in advance for your help.

Soil does not compress well Nipper, if you lay the slabs on it and tap them down to level 2 weeks later they will be dipping all over the place as the soil breaks down and compresses. When sand is used and tamped down it stays compressed.
