Hi - Our terraced house used to have another house attached to it and in 1976 the house was demolished and consequently our house became an end of terrace. When we moved into the house 16 years ago nobody mentioned that the outside wall of our house was still classed as a party wall. Consequently when we had our gas boiler moved from a bedroom to the kitchen 11 years ago, the plumber vented it through this wall. The land on which the house stood is owned by our local county council and is used as offices and car park. Our plumber went to the office and mentioned what he was doing and the only comment from the workers was that make sure it was high enough so people would not bang their heads, which he did. Now the council want to sell this site and we have had correspondence from their surveyors department insisting that we take the vent out of the wall. This would prove very difficult because in its present site there is not other way of venting the boiler, so we would have to move the boiler which would be expensive. Can they insist we do this? They have also made us move our garden boundary by 9 inches because they said that the fence was not in the correct place even though
the fence posts were set in their concrete!!
