Sash Window Exterior Painting

by mossy810 » Sun Sep 28, 2008 10:56 am

Hi,

I have some sash windows that need to be repainted on the outside as the current paint is flaking off.

Can some point me in the right direction in terms of repainting these?

I will be sanding / stripping as much of the old paint as possible. I have heard that ill need to use a primer, then an exterior undercoat, then finally finishing with white exterior gloss. Is this correct?

How would I go about repainting these and any advice on the best paints to use would be appreciated.

Thanks

Pete

Hi Pete,

After removing all the flaky paint and giving the windows a good rub down, you will need to prime all of the bare wood. I would recommend Dulux Oil based Wood Primer.

Then after a fill up with polyfilla and another rub down, use 2 coats of undercoat and 1 coat of Gloss. For the U/C and Gloss I would recommend Dulux Weathershield Exterior Undercoat and Dulux Weathersheild Exterior Gloss.

Hope this helps!

Craig.
