Low Hot water pressure after some DIY on Cold Water Tank

by turncol » Sun Nov 16, 2008 3:35 pm

Hello All,

I have just replaced the ball valve on the Cold Water tank in the loft, as it was not shutting off correctly and causing large amount of overflow. I managed to replace that successfully, but now the hot water pressure is severely reduced, to the point we can't use the shower.

We believe the root cause of this is due to the entire cold water tank (and possibly the Hot water tank too) being drained whilst the water was shut off, (who would have thought a bath took so much water!).

Has anybody got any ideas about the cause and solution of the problem?

Thanks
C

Is the tank filling correctly now and did you allow this tank and the cylinder to completely refill? If so it is likely a slight blockage whether physical, such as some crud or a valve that hasnt been opened fully.

whichever, the problem probably lies somwhere between the loft tank and where it feeds the cylinder at the bottom

There is no need to drain the cylinder or loft tank to replace the ball cock though - just shut off the stop cock under the sink and use some of the excess water in the tank so it drops a bit.
