freezing pipes

by gammo51 » Fri Jan 02, 2009 8:38 pm

Hi, All, Just looking for some advice. I have a water leak at my internal stop cock before the tap  . I cannot locate the external stop cock! some dodgy builders have block paved the drive prior to me buying the property it's lost under there somewhere!!! The pipe going to the internal stop cock appears to be plastic, can it be frozen to allow me to replace the stop cock? or do i need to locate the external one. Could someone please help? many thanks

Its probably in the street (path/road gutter) rather than your drive.

You can freeze pipes, it is harder to freeze vertical runs than horizontal though.

Is it leaking from a nut?

Which bit of the internal stopcock is leaking? you may be able to tighten the nut up, if its coming from the gland nut?

The stopcock should not be on your land but in the footpath in the street. Call your local waterboard and they will come and locate it for you.

IF there isn't one there, they are obliged to fit one for you FOC (well used to be anyway).

If you type the key words of your question into our search box to the left of the site you may find the answer is already posted or is in the DIY projects section of the website. Every post goes through a monitoring process and using the search box may speed up your answer.
