Putting a cupboard around my gas meter

by scoup » Tue Jan 06, 2009 8:54 pm

I want to convert my integral garage into a room. The gas meter and electricity meter are located on the inside wall of the garage. I do not need any ventilation space around the electricity meter, but probably do around the gas meter.
Does anyone know the regulations on what amount of stand off etc or venting is required around the gas meter when building the cupboard over the meters?
Thanks.

Hi Scoup,

I think min ventilation is 5%.But you should not make it inaccessable, ie main valve must be accessable at all times, also preferable if the cover can be lifted off.

Off the shelf meter boxes have a min of 5% ventilation by cubic volume - I believe.
Check with Mitras a meterbox maker.

You could also search online for the manufacturer's installation guide - don't know what make/model your boiler is but worcester gives guidelines.
