Hi,

Got a problem with toilet. When flushes the water in the pan rises (as if when it is blocked) but then goes down very quickly so there is virtually no water left in the pan. Has suddenly started doing this for last 1-2 weeks but the height it rises is increasing. Wasn't sure if the cystern was over filing, but have tried flushing when cystern is half full and it does the same. I'm no expert so any help is much appreciated. Thanks

Time to open the inspection chambers in/around you home and see if there are any blockages.

Sound like a blockage - try an impromptu plunger (old towel wrapped as a ball) to push up/down into pan during a flush.

Sounds like a partial blockage you have there.
May be in S bend of the bog, get yer long gloves on. :cry:

hi......sounds like a blockage.....when toilet is full of water, get an old bath towel and use it as a plunger,,..this may move the blockage....if not check the soil pipe and waste water drain outside might be idea to check toilet u/bend too......

It isn't the cistern. It can only be some sort of blockage in the soil stack or drain. If you have had one of those air freshener things which hang on the side of the wc pan and you have flushed it down it will almost certainly be this which is causing the problem as they rarely go "round the bend". I have lost count of the number of times I have come across this happening. If you are confident about removing and replacing the pan you could check, if not you will have to call in a plumber.
