painting a single skin wall

by dartmoorlizzie » Mon Jan 19, 2009 12:27 pm

Our porch has only single walls- no cavity - and consequently any paint quickly becomes discoloured and speckled with black mould. Are there any sealants I could try to stop this happening? Grateful for all ideas.

dartmoorlizzie,
Nothing will stay stuck to the inside of the walls if water is penetrating from the outside, also condensation will form because the walls are single skin - hence the mould.

So demolish porch and rebuild with cavity? Hang the expense?

dartmoorlizzie,
Since its a porch you could build inner walls of aerated concrete blocks leaving a cavity between the inner and outer walls but your porch will then be about 30cm smaller.
