I am replacing a standard double 13a wall plug socket with a double rcd socket as I am running an 8 plug extension for the tv, sky, dvd etc. I figure the rcd will be a safer way to go. My question is I removed the socket and went to fit the RCD but the live wire wont reach. Is there a safe way of extending the wire? only thing that i can think of is solder and lots of insulation...

You can crimp the joint with a coupler or you can use a conection block and wrap it in insulation tape as it is in the back box of a socket, it will be accessable for inspection.

A large connector block would be OK in the back box with a short length of extra wire as it can be checked for tightness easily later. Crimping with car type crimps not recommended, nor soldering.
