Hello, I have purchased a birch veneer unit from ikea a while ago.. so cannot return. I am now decorated and want it darker. Can i stain it? paint it so that it doesn't flake etc? thankyou

You will need to paint it with a proprietory Melamine primer Annie after cleaning with sugar soap to degrease. When primed you will be able to coat them with pretty much any undercoat and wood paint of your choice.
