Cold Radiator and Pipes All aspects of plumbing questions and answers, help, tips and information

The upstairs rear bedroom radiator is cold and the pipes leading to it are also cold. The radiator is mostly turned off, not sure if this is significant or not.

On advice we have tried testing the TRV valve - seems to move freely - and yesterday turned off all the other radiators at both valves to try to pump the hot water towards the cold radiator. No luck! Remains adamantly cold.

We turned the pump in the loft to its highest setting. Still no luck.

Any ideas would be welcome. :)

Try the simple things first. Bleed the radiator, if this doesn't work take the top off the TRV by unscrewing the knurled nut just under the thermostat asssembly. You don't have to turn any water off and it should come off fairly easily without any tools. If not carefully remove using a suitable spanner. You will see a small pin protruding from the centre of the valve. Lubricate this pin just slightly and gently tap (as they often stick) and make sure it goes up and down freely. Replace the top of the valve and set as you wish. Should do the trick.

probarly the valves are siezed even thou the trv turns if its been off for a while
also the system may need balancing see the projects page
