Hi

Wonder if anyone can help. My MIL has a ceiling light that when connected it does not switch off. We have changed the wall switch. There are 4 wires coming from the light socket 2 x red, 2 x black. Into the wall socket are 1 x red and 1 x black. If we only put 2 of the black and red into the ceiling socket, the other light in the room does not go on. The other light has a blue and a brown wire going into it. Can anyone help please?

If i understand your question correctly!
Connect both reds together a light fitting and blacks to either side of light, one is switch wire and the other is in-coming neutral.
The switch should be connected with red in common and black at L1

Sorry, I probably haven't explained properly. The existing wiring at the ceiling rose is 2 red into one and 2 blacks into the other and the light will not switch off. The wall switch has one red and one black into each connector (sorry, I don't know the correct terminology).

At the ceiling rose
1)connect the two reds together in a termination/connector block, seperate of anything else.
2)Then connect the two blacks across the light one at each terminal normally brown and blue flex.

What about performing a continuity test across the switch pair, to at least stand half a chance of getting the polarity correct at the light fitting?
