Plastering and Exposed Timber Work

by x-paul-x » Thu May 17, 2007 5:42 pm

We are considering exposing our rafters in a new build vaulted ceiling scenario. The insulation is above the rafters and the rafters are oversized and should not provide any problems in case of fire.

Is it simply a job where the plasterboard is fitted between the rafters on battens and skimmed over. If so, how do you minimise cracking in the plaster. Presumably the timbers will move and this will crack the plaster along all the points the two materials meet. I can live with the odd crack but not sure I fancy filling huge lengths of cracks along all the rafters.

Any advice would be very helpful.

Use a felxible filler called decorators caulk as seen in our project called filling cracks around the house. You will need an applicator gun but its so easy to put on and can be plastered over.
