Kitchen Unit / Hob question Help, advice and problem solutions on all aspects of home appliances from washing machines to TV's

Can you tell me, is there a regulation that states you cannot have a top kitchen cupboard overhanging the hob? Or a kitchen cupboard that has been fitted too low to the actual hob?

You can have a cupboard over a hob but for gas it must be 750mm above the rings, for electric its 650mm but the manufacturers recommendations should be followed.

Hmmmm.. the cooker in my rented place is short of that by 12cms.....

Theres also a sidways consideration but the suppliers MIs for the kitchen should have said - especially if it is an extractor hood. Those MIs may give clearances less than SB has said.

Suggest you raise youyr concern with your landlord and if he says "don't worry about it it's OK" get him to put it in writing. Then it's his problem.

Hi, surely if it's a gas hob the landlord would/should have had a landlords gas cert. The gasman would have then condemed it as a fire risk. It's a big no no get your landlord to change it before some poor sole gets hurt. It's 450mm to the side nevermind 300mm direct.

Well.. the corners do overhang the actual hobs and when frying bacon a week ago some fat spat out and caused a flame which put black soot over the corner of the cupboard which is what caused me the concern. I will mention this to the landlord though and see what he says.
