Tobacco odour coming through gaps in floorboards

by jess » Mon Mar 09, 2009 4:53 pm

We have a problem with tobacco odour coming through the gaps in the floor boards from our neighbours house, even though we have a carpet on top of the boards. Please could you recommend something to fill the gaps. Thank you.

Sealing the gaps in the boards is treating the symptom not the cause. You need to find out where its coming through the wall.

Better still complain to your neighbour and get them to seal it up from their side. That way they do the work and you still get a solution.

Bona Gapmaster is very good with gaps of 2-10mm. Lots of different colours.

Advice: tobacco odour

Thank you both for your advice. I`ve spoken to the neighbours, who say that there aren`t any holes/cracks in the plaster on their side and don`t know how it is getting through! Unfortunately, they rent the property and without them telling us, we dont know who the letting agent and landlord are.

Don't accept that. Its getting through somewhere. They are doing something which is causing you distress and you have a right to remedy.

Make your complaint in writing - if they or their landlord don't respond take it up with Environmental Health.

Cheers
