Door Entry System

by Stillia » Sat Mar 21, 2009 11:02 pm

I need help on this....

Just replaced an old 1 way door entry system with Challenger model. Following the instructions & using 8 core alarm cable I ran the following:-

Supply cable from transformer to push button unit
Cable from handset to push button unit
Cable from handset to door catch
Cable from push button unit to door catch

The unit is powered up & both handset & push button unit can communicate with each other. However, the handset door release button does not seem to be working. I have tried both the old release catch & the new one that came with the set.

Can anyone help me with this???

Thanks, Andy.

Hi stillia,

I've had many a run in with door entry systems and every one i've come across has been different. I've found that ripping them out is the only sane choice.

Hi stillia,
have you tried connecting the lock release cores u r using together temp.
and testing for continuity at control unit end to prove circuit first.
Another point, due to low voltages in use if you have enough cores spare double up for release circuit to keep volt drop low due to reletively high current in use particularly if long distance between button and lock.

Hi, looking at the diagram given, they are saying that there's a supply to the door release from BOTH the panel & phone.
Ive used 2 cores (red/brown) from the phone to the lock & another 2 cores (blue/black) from the control panel to the lock.
Does this sound correct???

Hi again, no it doesn't seem correct unless one is power and the other switching ie 12V from panel & switch pair from phone which would probably be wired in series ,
what make/model so I can try to look up wiring diagram,
