Patio doors in place of a window

by mdemetri2 » Thu May 24, 2007 3:04 pm

Hi all,
New to DIY doctor, but its seems like a very useful site and I enjoy reading the posts, so decided to post my own question.....

I'm looking at purchasing my first house and there is loads of work expected to be done (so no doubt I will be getting lots of advice from here :D ).

I would like to change the layout of the back of my house so that the current back door is bricked up half way and window put in, and replace a window in the kitchen/diner with some patio doors - is this sort of thing expensive?? Vague sort of question I know but just want to get a feel of the initial answers / further quesions.

Can you post pictures on here? As that may help understand the layout and situation......

Hi, This is no big problem. Block up part of your door to form a window. Try to keep it the same height as existing windows.( Above worktop height) Double Glazing company can make a window to fit.
Regarding the patio doors,, If you are happy with the width of your existing window, Great , as you wont need to change the Lintel.. Just cut out the wall below. Make good, and again, a D/G company will make you an exact fit Frame & doors.. Could do the donkey work yourself and get a tradesman in to finish. Hope this is a help..
