Recommended post setting distances

by jonaeroblue » Wed May 27, 2009 3:41 pm

I am planning to build some decking at the end of the garden.

I planned area is approx 6m wide x 3m deep.

How many concreate set wooden posts would be required to support the whole structure up?
And at what distance should I set each post. Because the decking area is 6m wide and 3m deep should I set some supporting posts in the central area?

I only plan to raise the decking by approx 100mm from level ground.

"cannot see anything about how far each post needs to be set apart?"

Oh - did you not read this?

"there should be no more than 2m between posts holding up the frame but 4m can be allowed between ends of the frame providing the joists are no more than 450mm apart. This means that using 225 x 50mm timbers a frame 4m x 4m can be built (12ft x 12ft) using 8 posts.

You should be able to work out your own answer to fit your own project from this guidance. If you can't work it out then you should get someone in who knows what he is doing.

Cheers
